Max Planck Internships 2027 in Germany (Fully Funded)

The Max Planck Society invites international students to apply for its 2027 Internship Programme in Computer Science. This prestigious opportunity places undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students in world-class research environments across Germany. Participating institutes include the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Saarbrücken, the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems, and the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy in Bochum. The internship typically lasts 12 to 14 weeks, offering an immersive research experience.

What the Internship Covers

Selected interns receive comprehensive financial support throughout their placement.

The programme provides a monthly stipend, covers round-trip travel costs from your residence to the host institute, and arranges housing.
You will work directly with an assigned faculty mentor in an English-speaking, multicultural research environment.
Knowledge of German is not required, making this opportunity accessible to students from around the world.

Research Focus

Internships are available in computer science and related interdisciplinary fields. Students may also apply if their main focus connects to computer science, including disciplines like social science, economics, law, or humanities. Interns engage in academic research projects matched to their interests, academic background, and previous experience. Participants work on projects that can lead to strong research experience and, in some cases, co-authored publications.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be undergraduate, master’s, or PhD students with a strong background in computer science.
You should have completed coursework roughly equivalent to the first three years of a standard computer science undergraduate programme by the internship start date.
An excellent academic record is essential, and you must demonstrate a genuine interest in academic research.
Pre-doctoral students exploring research before starting a PhD are especially encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

The application process is entirely online through the official Max Planck internship portal. You must create an account, complete the application form, and upload all required documents. These include your CV, academic transcripts, and contact information for at least one reference. A motivation letter is optional but recommended. The application system allows you to specify your preferred research area, faculty members, and intended internship period . Shortlisted applicants may be invited for a phone or online interview before selection.

Critical Deadlines

For internships starting between May and August 2027, the application deadline is November 1, 2026. For internships starting outside the summer months, there is no fixed deadline, but you should apply at least 5 months before your intended start date.

Conclusion

This prestigious programme offers exceptional value for students seeking international research exposure in a world-class scientific environment. The combination of financial support, mentorship, and cutting-edge research creates a transformative opportunity to advance your academic career.
