UNIDIR Graduate Professional Program 2027 in Switzerland

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) invites graduate students and recent graduates to apply for its 2027 Graduate Professional Programme. This paid opportunity offers hands-on experience in international security, disarmament, gender issues, and emerging technologies like cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

What the Programme Offers

Selected Graduate Professionals receive a monthly stipend to support their participation. In-person participants based in Geneva receive USD 1,500 per month, while remote participants receive USD 750 per month. The programme lasts six months with the possibility of extension, and there is no application fee.

Programme Focus and Activities

Participants join UNIDIR’s Integrated Approaches – Gender and Disarmament Programme, contributing to research and policy initiatives that advance gender perspectives in disarmament and youth engagement across arms control. Responsibilities include conducting background research, supporting meetings and conferences, assisting with communication and coordination tasks, and preparing concise written briefs.

Who Should Apply

Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s or higher) or have graduated within the past year and be able to commence the programme within one year of graduation. No prior professional work experience is required, making this opportunity accessible to early-career professionals. UNIDIR prefers applicants with postgraduate qualifications relevant to gender, youth, and disarmament issues, such as international relations, political science, international law, or gender studies.

Key Competencies

Successful candidates demonstrate strong research and presentation skills, the ability to synthesize information into high-quality written briefs, organizational and coordination capabilities, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools. Familiarity with Canva or InDesign is also valuable. Fluency in English is required, while knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset.

How to Apply

Submit your application via email to unidir.recruitment@un.org. Required documents include a cover letter, your Inspira Personal History Profile (PHP) in PDF format, and short responses to screening questions. Use the subject line “UNIDIR GPP – IntApp (Geneva).” A CV alone will not be accepted.
