Ethical Migration Journalism Fellowship 2027 | Call for Applications

Applications are open for the Ethical Migration Journalism Fellowship in Thailand. IOM and Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly run this programme. It trains local journalists and students to report on migration ethically. Five fellows will each produce an original story from Chiang Rai.

About the Fellowship

This fellowship builds directly on IOM’s earlier migration reporting trainings. It strengthens locally rooted journalism about real migrant experiences. Fellows work closely with editors and migration specialists throughout. The goal is more accurate, balanced coverage at the community level.

What Fellows Receive

Fellows receive a USD 1,000 grant to produce their story. Mentorship and editorial guidance continue throughout the reporting process. IOM also organizes a field visit connecting fellows with foreign correspondents. Completed stories may be published directly through IOM’s channels.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must be journalists or students based in Chiang Rai. Any nationality qualifies, provided the applicant lives locally. Candidates must have completed IOM’s migration reporting training or GMMA e-learning. A feasible, original story proposal about local migration is required.

Required Materials

Applicants submit a resume, one-page cover letter, and completed proposal form. A training completion certificate must accompany the application. Journalist applicants also submit two samples of previous published work.
