GOD IS YOUR CONFIDENCE

Scripture Reading: Exodus 7

So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the LORD commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent. Exodus 7:10

The first sign that God commanded Moses to do before Pharaoh was one that Moses was familiar with. The Lord had walked Moses through the sign when they met at Mount Horeb. Moses now worked this miracle before Aaron and the elders of Israel.

God started with the known.

 He started with something that both Aaron and Moses had seen before so they would not be scared in front of Pharaoh. That shows how particular the Lord is when dealing with His children. He is mindful of who we are and does things to strengthen us and not to weaken us.

The first time Moses saw this miracle at Horeb, he fled from the serpent. Can you imagine Moses fleeing from his own sign in the presence of Pharaoh? What a letdown that would have been. God prepared Moses and Aaron ahead of time so they would not undermine themselves before Pharaoh.

God used Aaron’s staff.

On Mount Horeb and before the elders of Israel, the Lord used Moses’s staff for the first sign. However, before Pharaoh, the Lord used Aaron’s staff. The power was neither in Moses’s staff nor that of Aaron. The power was the Lord’s. 

We must always remind ourselves that the Lord uses us because He so chooses to do so. He does not use us because we are so unique and indispensable. If He can use us and what we have to work out His purposes, He can also use someone else and what they have to work out His purposes.

God’s word works when we obey.

Moses and Aaron did what the Lord had asked them to do. And God did what He had promised to do. We see God’s works when we walk in obedience to Him and not when we argue and debate our way out of His will.

It is encouraging to know that God is faithful to do whatever He promises.

Heavenly Father, you are my confidence. Use what I have in my hand to work your works. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
