The European Parliament invites graduates and vocational candidates to apply for the Schuman Traineeship Programme, a highly competitive paid opportunity offering hands-on experience in EU policymaking, research, and institutional work. What the Programme Offers
Selected trainees gain first-hand experience of EU institutional processes while working on real policy and research assignments. The European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) provides independent research and analysis to Members of the European Parliament and its committees. Trainees develop expertise in their chosen field, contribute to evidence-based policymaking, and build professional networks within EU institutions.
Traineeship Areas
Applicants choose from a wide range of thematic and operational areas:
- Foreign and External Policies: Latin America, Europe, Euromed and Middle East, Transatlantic Relations, Africa, Caribbean and Pacific, Asia, Australia and New Zealand
- Parliamentary Committees: Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Security and Defence, International Trade, Development
- External Policy Analysis: Election Observation, Parliamentary Support, Human Rights Action, Mediation and Dialogue Support
- Horizontal Services: Communications, Strategy and Innovation, IT, Human Resources
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet specific criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be a national of an EU Member State (limited positions open to non-EU nationals)
- Hold a university degree (EQF Level 6) or vocational qualification (EQF Levels 3-5) obtained within the EU
- Meet language requirements
- Provide a valid criminal record certificate
- Not have worked or trained in an EU institution for more than 2 months
- Not have conducted a study visit at the European Parliament Secretariat within the last 6 months
The programme now includes expanded eligibility for candidates with vocational education qualifications, broadening access beyond traditional university graduates.

- Motivation letter (maximum one page per application)
You may apply for up to 3 positions only. Applying to more than three roles results in disqualification. Applications cannot be edited after submission.
